Block unwanted sites from your Google, DuckDuckGo, Startpage.com, Bing and Yahoo search r###lts. v2.3.5 2025-03-21
< Обсуждения: Google Hit Hider by Domain (Search Filter / Block Sites)
Yes, the script has broken for me since updating to 2.3.4.
It's due to yet-another set of changes to the site by Alphabet-Google. You can tell the r###lts pages look a bit different from a few days ago.
JS, for my setups:
Tampermonkey 5.3.3 / Firefox 128.6.0 ESR (r3dfox)
:: The 'Block' button is not showing. Actual filtering is occurring.
GM v3.1.1 / :ahem: legacy Firefox {yes-yes we know-- you don't support them. Just mentioning for sake of other readers who'll come this way}
:: Neither the 'Manage Hiding' nor 'Block' button are appearing. Filtering is NOT occurring.
And to report in one place, as this is certainly related to Google's changes: Google site: Tool (Site r###lts / Exclude sites) is not working at all on either setup - the tooltip does not pop-up, and hovering & clicking the link goes to the URL i.e. does not pop open the tool's config pane.
Version 2.3.5 has some fixes for missing block buttons on web r###lts. But they might change it again tomorrow. < sigh >
For Google site: Tool, hopefully fixed in v1.5.3, posted just now.
Both updates working for me - thank you again!
Using Firefox 136.0.2, all that's visible in the dialog box is the second radio button and the Block Site/Perma-ban buttons. The bottom of the top radio button is just barely visible unless I'm at the bottom of the r###lts page, when the dialog box is cut off at the bottom of the second radio button.
The dialog box opens over the right side of the Google hit information, and the icon/site title are whited out even thought the dialog box doesn't cover them. The missing bottom of the dialog box does not cover the quoted text from the Google hit.
The problem persisted after restarting Firefox.
I'm running Windows 10 Home version 2004 and have NoScript 12.1.1 in Firefox, probably the same version in Brave. I'm using TamperMonkey on both browsers.
I hope that's enough detail.
It won't install at all in Brave, from which I removed the non-working version a few days ago.
(I hate to make my first post a complaint. Love the script and have been using it for years.)
Weird. The Cancel/Manage Hiding line of buttons has started appearing. I'll let you know if the problem fully resolves itself.
Sometimes the block dialog is behind something or gets forcibly trimmed by a style rule in the page. Sometimes this is apparent for everyone, and other times, it depends on the particular set of r###lts, whether you are signed in or not, whether you are part of an experiment, etc., etc.
I probably should use a completely different method to overlay it rather than trying to put it just to the right of the block button and get buffeted by Google's changes.
I don't have Brave installed, so I tried on Chrome. Nothing happened, but I noticed a prompt to do this:
https://www.tampermonkey.net/faq.php#Q209
After much puzzlement, it eventually started working. If your other userscripts already work, that probably isn't the issue on yours.
I usually work signed out of Google because I caught it, ironically enough, hiding about 75% of the r###lts it said it was showing on the page I was on; I'd override google.ca so that it showed 100 r###lts instead of 10. When I signed out, all the r###lts were shown.
So I signed in, page reloaded, and the dialog box was displaying properly. Signed out and it was chopped off again.
Since I'm doing research, a chopped off display box is still better than 75% of r###lts on a page hidden.
Thanks for the script, it saves me a lot of time.
> I'd override google.ca so that it showed 100 r###lts instead of 10
Remind me how to do that with the new highly simplified settings page?
It doesn't work when signed in unless manually adding "&num=100" or using an extension to do it.
When I'm signed out, I only have to add the r###lts number the first time, and it remembers it after that.
isn't really working right now fort he past coupel cays. no hover buttons, no blocking. may have to modify script again due to google updates
